Steve was always warm and solid underneath him, and it didn't matter that their surroundings were different from usual. It had been a long day, both with the start of his own mission and then coming here to find Steve and while they had had only a few hours together and there were sirens down in the streets as the HYDRA base was dealt with now that it was exposed, he slept easily and well from where he had lay himself down. Between the two of them, he considered this the safest place to be.
Aside from straightening his legs in the night, he remained a heavy weight on his friend's chest. There was considerable comfort as he rose and fell with each of Steve's deep breaths in sleep, something that made him think of different times when the opposite would be true. Maybe he was remembering a time when Steve was small and needed his chest to rest on. Maybe he was remembering way back when they were children.
Slowly, he shifted on Steve's chest and opened his eyes, which sharpened when he realized he was awake. His eyes flicked around the room to find the place in a state of disarray from feathers, and he slowly lifted his head from where it had rested against Steve's shoulder. He bit back a yawn and instead stretched slightly before finding himself looking down into Steve's face which wore a fond smile. "I suspect we slept too long. Are you feeling well?"
