He couldn't say that he had enough reference of the past to truly know how bad it had been when they were growing up, but he remembered something about the army not wanting people who loved certain groups. It seemed absurd to him, but he didn't make the rules, and rules were just something put in place so that Steve could kick them down when his friend didn't agree with them. He simply accepted that he was going to do what he wanted when it came to Steve, and no one was going to stop him on that.
