disassembling MERTRASH
He wasn't supposed to be out so soon during the aftermath of a storm, especially one that was as big as a hurricane. Especially not one of this magnitude. But his body, after the series of treatments containing nasty tasting potions as concocted by Erskine had worked, was strong and new to him, and he loved doing all the things that his weak and sick body couldn't do before.
One of those things were riding the still-strong waves in search of interesting human artifacts to bring back to the clan. There was always more floating around after a storm, especially the bigger pieces, from shipwrecks and things that humans have left carelessly unsecured on their ships when a storm hit. Now he's actually strong enough to bring the bigger pieces home and could go further than he could before. Some of the more interesting pieces he will keep for himself but other would be given to friends or traded for other things.
In the far distance under the sunshine that was starting to peak out from the clearing storm clouds, he spotted the glint of metal and started to swim towards it, eager to find out what his first find of the day would be.

The crass call of the gulls meant little to him, but he turned his head to watch them a moment. There were other birds that were better observers to a possible attack, but none of them happened to be present. They were on their own. "Are you always this stubborn and persistent or does it have something to do with me?"
no subject
"Both." He answered absently as he watched his slowly transforming legs. Just a few more minutes in the sun and with the sand, the last of the scales would be gone and his legs would be fully separate. "I've never met anyone like you." He added honestly as he piled more sand at the spot what humans would call toes, wiggling the appendage a tad impatiently.
no subject
"I can say the same thing," he replied grudgingly. "I'm unique even among our kind. Your fascination could get you hurt, you realize?"
no subject
Steve wiggled his feet and they were really feet now and meet the other mer's gaze. "I have a feeling it will be worth it." Here he paused and blinked. "I...what do I call you? I'm Steve."
no subject
"I don't enter the water or interact with my own kind often," he agreed because he recognized the life of danger in the sea but didn't put much stock into it. He blinked much the same at the question, tilting his head to the side as he considered the question. That was... not something that he ever had to worry about. "Steve, I'm... well, to be honest, they don't exactly call me anything but 'Soldier', and I don't... remember the name my mother gave me."
no subject
He leaned in until there was less than two fingers width of distance between their faces, thinking of what he'd learned in this short period of time he'd known the dark haired mer in beside him. After a few minutes, a name slipped out from his mouth.
"Bucky. You feel like a 'Bucky' to me."
no subject
"Bucky?" He said the word to taste it on his tongue and then nodded his head. It had a nice ring to it, far better than the titles that he was called. This had feeling to it.
He leaned in to butt his forehead gently against Steve's in a sign of mer affection and then rose to his feet and stretched his arms above his head. It was time to head off and Steve probably needed some practice on those long legs as it was. "We shouldn't linger then."
no subject
He smiled broadly as he returned the affectionate gesture, then clambered onto his long legs, a bit unsteady on his new feet as he got used to the sensation of having legs instead of fins and a tail. He took a few steps tentative steps around the other mer then turned suddenly to him, plucking at Bucky's pants curiously. "By the way, humans wear these things right? They're called...clothes? Don't I need some or I'll stand out too much?"
no subject
"Yes, we will have to get some clothing for you or it will attract unwanted attention. A pair of shoes will preserve your feet as well. There are a few coastal settlements we can acquire some temporarily." He nodded his head and began to pick his way off of the shoals to softer ground for Steve, pausing to make certain that the other mer could keep up before even considering heading off at any kind of pace.
